About me
I’m a British counsellor and Reiki healer based in Stockholm, Sweden. My cultural backdrop is British Croatian by birth and British Pakistani by marriage. I self-identify as neurodiverse (currently going through assessment), and grew up in a family with strong neurodiverse traits and a sprinkling of various diagnoses.
I have worked within mental health and wellbeing for 30 years, and in private practice as a counsellor and Reiki healer since 2010. Spanning the period 2010 to 2021, I also worked as an outreach and school counsellor for ARC Counselling in Wokingham, UK.
For my counselling work, I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means that I work within their Code of Ethics. Due to my work as a counsellor, my ethical considerations always extend to my healing work too. I have current insurance to practice counselling and Reiki, and my registered VAT (MOMS) number in Sweden is SE770116138701.
Because of my own background I have a particular interest in the impact of difference, whether cultural, relating to faith and belief, or individual e.g. neurodivergence such as ADHD, PDA, autism, giftedness or sensory sensitivities; mental health problems; or gender, sexual or relationship diversity.
I work with the anger and other emotions that difference or feeling misunderstood can lead to, and the impact on life direction this can have, for example, when it leads to feelings of depression, helplessness or lack of purpose.
I also work with issues relating to life transition points, and their impact on relationships with self and others. These transitions might include:
- Identity or life choices, for example:
- Confusion around your gender, sexual or relationship identity
- Becoming an adult
- Marriage, pregnancy or becoming a parent
- Coping with age-related changes, including menopause and andropause (‘male menopause’)
- Relationship breakdown, including infidelity or jealousy
- Coping with issues relating to start and end of life
- Conception and pregnancy
- Dying and death
- Loss of faith or uncertainty surrounding personal beliefs
- The twin relationship, including estrangement or loss
These transitions can result in an existential crisis. This is where everything you once assumed or expected in life, has been lost. You may feel uncertain or afraid. You no longer feel able to predict or assure your future. You may be wondering, what is my purpose?
I also offer consultations to parents or educators around supporting young people who are different, or who do not respond well to traditional (aka neurotypical) parenting or teaching methods.
